7 Powerful Ways to Pray and Activate Purpose in Your Life

Prayer is an activation tool. When you come to God in prayer, you are given faith to move in purpose.


I define prayer as an exchange with our Heavenly Father—a time to commune and receive divine insight and instruction from our Creator. There are many ways to pray, and in this blog, we’ll explore some tips to deepen your prayer life. However, the most important thing is to learn to be still and open to hearing the calm whisper of the Spirit.


Prayer is meant to be an intimate time between you and God. When we pray, we unlock purpose. Let’s dive into 7 powerful ways to pray that can help you activate God’s purpose in your life.


1. Prayer of Thanks

One of my favorite ways to pray is with a spirit of gratitude. Thanking God for all the blessings in your life—big and small—opens the door to greater joy and peace. When we come to God with thanksgiving, it blesses both the giver and the receiver.


Action Step: Start your prayers by listing three things you’re thankful for today, and notice how it shifts your mindset.



2. Prayer Walk

Walking can be more than just physical exercise—it can be a spiritual journey. Prayer walks calm your mind, allowing you to seek God’s presence while taking in the beauty of His creation. Whether it’s a park, a hike, or the beach, prayer walks bring clarity and peace.


Action Step: Schedule a 10-minute walk this week dedicated to prayer. Use the time to talk to God and listen for His guidance.



3. Prayer Journaling

This is one of my favorite ways to connect with God. By putting pen to paper, you pour out your heart and receive divine insight in return. Whether you’re gratitude journaling or writing a "Dear God" entry, prayer journaling is a powerful way to hear from God.


Action Step: Set aside 7 minutes each morning to journal your prayers. Reflect on what’s on your heart and invite God to speak through your writing.



4. Surrendered Prayer

In moments of fatigue or uncertainty, surrender your burdens to God. Kneel or lay before Him and ask for His strength. God is faithful to give comfort and teach you how to rest in His presence.

Action Step: Take five minutes today to pray a surrendered prayer. Tell God what’s weighing on you and ask Him to replace your burdens with His peace.



5. Intercessory Prayer

Praying on behalf of others is one of the most selfless acts of faith. Whether for family, friends, or even your nation, intercessory prayer connects you with God’s heart for others.

Action Step: Create a prayer list of at least five people or situations you want to intercede for this week. Commit to praying for them daily.



6. Humility Prayer

This is when you come to God asking to be more like Jesus. Allow Him to examine your heart, pruning anything that doesn’t reflect Him. Humility in prayer aligns you with His will and purpose.


Action Step: Ask God to reveal one area where you can grow spiritually. Pray for strength to make changes that align with His will.



7. Ask Prayer

Don’t be afraid to ask big things of God. He’s an abundant Father who loves to bless His children. Trust Him to work exceedingly above all you could ask or imagine.

Action Step: Write down one bold request to bring before God in prayer this week. Pray over it daily, trusting in His timing and provision.
